Free help for an alum? [24 Jun 2009|09:03pm]

Hey Twainers! So...this pertains to Twain because my talent was creative writing and then my major in college was music. Okay, now that I've justified that, I was wondering if you could help a struggling musician out. ;)

I wrote this song, "Alibi," in college, and now it is being given away on Reverbnation as an exclusive free download for a limited time. If you download it (once each), I get paid. Help? Free for you, I get paid, everyone wins!! :)

Thank you!!
Jenn :)

HAHA wow. A Mark Twain community, I haven't seen this before. Is it awful I don't even remember what year I graduated? I think perhaps it was either 98 or 99. I was in vocal talent, when Mister Postel was still teaching, I think I might have been his last (or seond to last) year. HAHA I definitely had Patashna. Wow, Junior High seems so fucking long ago.

I don't know how I stumbled across this community but scrolling through the past 3 or so years of entries has made me slightly nostalgic... thank you all for the updates on all that's been going down on Neptune Avenue (was it?). For the intro: My name is Joyce - class of 1998, was in 8H4, strings talent with Mr. Postel, ended up in Midwood and will be a senior in Binghamton this coming fall. That was probably the same road as at least 300 other Mark Twain graduates.

I read a lot of gripes, but I really, genuinely enjoyed my time at the school. I guess it's because we only choose to remember the good parts of our past sometimes... but those were three damn good years with damn good teachers. Once you're in college/grad school you start realizing how little your professors really care about you, as opposed to all the quirky fools from Twain. I remember Mr. Patashna wore flares a few times... faded sky blue flares. Anyway... cheers to us.

I was showing parts of the 2002 video yearbook to a friend of mine... and it was so bad. But that made it really funny and I can't believe how small everyone was. You can really tell now!

oh man, I was on the train today, and I randomly thought of an incident that happened at Twain that was really hilarious.

I was eating lunch when all of a sudden Mr. Rizzi taps me on the shoulder and told me to go to Zebrower's office (he was the dean...he had eyes like a gecko). Zebrower then read off like a list of things I had been supposedly doing, like stealing homework and tests from a teacher, or something to that effect. now, about halfway into the inquisition, he (finally) asks me for my full name. the look on his face when he realized he was looking for someone completely different was priceless. he then proceeded to yell at Mr. Rizzi as to how incompetent Rizzi was, and sent me back to lunch. great times.

also, I remember Patashna constantly ranting about how the word "liberal" is villified. and he'd start talking about it really randomly, which was even funnier.

plenty of good times at Twain, indeed. just looked at my yearbook a few weeks ago, actually.

I really honestly can't believe I found this community.

I went to Mark Twain for a year, then I moved out to Long Island to complete my public school experience. I actually just graduated from highschool, so I was attending Mark Twain for the '97-'98 school year. I think, if my math is correct.

I was in science talent, and I remember the instructor had quadruple bypass surgery that year, and we had the nicest substitute teacher ever. I don't remeber either od their names.

I was in 6M3 and I even kept my lunch card, because I was a dork like that. I still have my mark Twain phys-ed t-shirt too.

...and a picture of me in it...Collapse )

Does anyone remeber the "technology" class, where we filed down pieces of plastic into all sorts of interesting shapes? Heh, I was so good at that, although I don't know if it's something to be proud of.

Well, to sum this up, finding this community, and seeing the IS239 website really brought back some memories. Made me smile, which is odd, because I don't think school makes many people smile.

introduction from an old MT alum [16 Jan 2004|09:37am]

[ mood | surprised ]

Hi everybody. I just found this community by accident, when searching for stuff about Coney Island. I went to Mark Twain wayyyyy back in the day. I think I was the last 9th grade graduating class, back in 1992. (Which makes me 27 years old. I'm feelin very old right now compared to everybody else here.) I was in instrumental music talent (clarinet) with Mr. Rubin. Thanks to the person who posted the link to the current school website. I looked at the teachers list, and was happy to see so many familiar names there. I may even email a couple of them, although they probably won't remember me.

So is there anybody reading this who is anywhere near my age? I'm curious if any older alums have found the community. Has it been advertised in the Stuy community? I think that there are some MT grads there, who might be interested.

at first i really didn't like ms. anderson. but thinking back i have so much respect for her, heh. not only was she a really really good teacher, but at the end of the year, they had the after school regents review classes, and i was waiting in the auditorium for it to start, and this really really slutty girl was there, flirting with mr. rodriguez (who was flirting back), and asking him for a ride home. ms. anderson came in and yelled at mr. rodriguez for even considering taking the girl in his car, and then yelled at the girl, asking her why she would wear a black bra with a tiny white tank top.
